Job summary

OBR, headquartered in Northwood, Ohio, seeks a Startup and Commissioning Specialist to plan, execute and document startup activities for new or upgraded industrial equipment at customer sites across the United States. You will travel up to 80%, perform VFD setup, vibration data collection, and collaborate with the controls team to ensure integration and commissioning readiness.

The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and on-site problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong technical knowledge to diagnose electrical, control and mechanical issues on industrial equipment.
• Experience with vibration analysis and mechanical maintenance best practices.
• Familiarity with control systems including VFDs/PLCs and automation tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient in reporting tools.
• Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and perform startup activities for new or upgraded equipment, ensuring systems are integrated and calibrated.
• Perform general VFD setup and programming, locking out undesired frequencies based on vibration analysis.
• Perform baseline vibration data collection during cooling tower start-ups.
• Collaborate with controls/automation team to ensure proper integration of vibration monitoring with control systems.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during startup and commissioning phases.
• Maintain commissioning documentation including test results and turnover packages.
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Support continuous improvement of commissioning processes and best practices.
• Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot vibration sensors and diagnostic tools.
• Perform cooling tower inspections, test functionality, and verify readiness for operation.
• Enter confined spaces and climb structures to collect data and prepare reports.
• Develop technical reports communicating findings and recommendations from on-site data collection.
