Job summary

OBR Cooling Towers is seeking a Startup and Vibration Technician to lead commissioning for new or upgraded industrial equipment across sites from data centers to refineries. You will travel extensively to install, test, and document startup activities and ensure smooth transition from construction to operations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience required; technical associate degree or comparable formal training is a plus.
• Strong technical knowledge and hands-on field experience diagnosing electrical, control, and mechanical issues with industrial equipment.
• Working knowledge of vibration analysis and mechanical maintenance best practices.
• Familiarity with control systems, including VFDs, PLCs and related automation tools.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with computer-based reporting tools.
• Good organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform startup activities for new or upgraded equipment, ensuring proper integration and calibration.
• Perform general VFD setup and programming with lockout of frequencies based on vibration analysis.
• Collect baseline vibration data during cooling tower start-ups.
• Collaborate with controls and automation teams to integrate vibration monitoring with control systems.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during startup and commissioning.
• Maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test results and turnover packages.
• Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Support continuous improvement of commissioning processes and best practices.
• Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot vibration sensors and accelerometers.
• Perform cooling tower inspections and functional testing to ensure readiness.
• Enter confined spaces and climb structures to collect data and develop technical reports.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
• Submit expense reports.
• Perform other duties as directed by OBR Supervisor.
