Job summary

OBR Cooling Towers seeks a Startup and Vibration Technician to execute commissioning and startup activities for new or upgraded industrial equipment. You will travel to customer sites to collect data, troubleshoot, and perform inspections with a focus on vibration analysis and control system integration.

The role requires hands-on experience, strong technical knowledge, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset, with expected travel up to 100% of the time.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience required; technical associate degree or comparable formal training is a plus.
• Strong technical knowledge and hands-on field experience diagnosing, and mitigating electrical, control, and mechanical related issues with industrial equipment.
• Working knowledge of vibration analysis and mechanical maintenance best practices.
• Familiarity with control systems, including VFDs, PLCs and related automation tools.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with computer-based reporting tools.
• Good organizational skills.
• Computer literate and competent using Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
• Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform startup activities for new or upgraded equipment, ensuring proper integration and calibration.
• Perform general VFD setup and programming with lockout of undesirable frequencies based on vibration analysis.
• Collect baseline vibration data during cooling tower startups.
• Collaborate with controls/automation team to integrate vibration monitoring with control systems.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during startup and commissioning.
• Maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test results and turnover packages.
• Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Support continuous improvement of commissioning processes and best practices.
• Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot vibration sensors and accelerometers within control systems.
• Inspect cooling tower components, verify installation quality, and conduct functional tests.
• Enter confined spaces and climb structures to collect data and develop technical reports.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures on each project.
• Submit expense reports for company costs.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
