Job summary

The Jordan-Young Institute Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking a full-time Surgery Scheduler. You will coordinate administrative tasks for a busy physician team, manage scheduling, and serve as a key contact for patients and surgeons.

Applicants should have prior scheduling or medical secretary experience, strong MS Office/EHR familiarity, and excellent communication. This role emphasizes organization, discretion, and compassionate patient service.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a surgery scheduler, medical secretary or similar administrative position.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, regulations and medical office procedures; knowledge of medical coding is strongly desired.
• Knowledge and familiarity of MS Office, databases, and EHR systems
• Outstanding communication skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service and address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Patience and discretion
• Organizational and multitasking skills
• High school diploma, required; additional training in Medical Administration is a plus

Responsibilities

• Receive and assist patients as needed, acting as a point of contact between patients and surgeons.
• Verify insurance coverage, obtain pre-authorization, and communicate with insurers.
• Maintain accurate patient records, manage office communications, and update schedules.
• Schedule consultations and surgeries, coordinate staff and equipment, and ensure confidentiality.
• Prepare surgery packets with pre-op and post-op instructions and address questions.
• Handle calls and emails; serve as a contact between patients, surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
