Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Counsel to support mortgage servicing and origination operations in the United States. You will provide in-house legal guidance on servicing documents, regulatory compliance, and investor requirements, helping teams stay compliant while mitigating risk.

The role requires a Law Degree and US admission, with 1–3 years of experience in mortgage servicing regulation. Proficiency in Reg X and Reg Z, strong written/verbal skills, and collaboration across teams

Qualifications

  • Law Degree required.
  • Admitted to practice law in the US.
  • Typically 1–3 years of professional experience in mortgage servicing law.
  • Licensed to practice law, in good standing.
  • Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of Regulation X (RESPA) and Regulation Z (TILA) and related requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal counsel to mortgage servicing teams and minimize risk.
  • Research and interpret federal and state mortgage laws and investor requirements.
  • Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Address servicing documentation questions for internal clients.
  • Support regulatory change implementations.
