Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in-house legal and regulatory guidance focused on mortgage servicing documentation and compliance. You will research and interpret federal/state regulations, draft and review documents, and partner with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams to implement regulatory changes.

The role requires a law degree, US admission to practice, and 1–3 years of experience in mortgage servicing law.

Qualifications

  • Law Degree required.
  • Admitted to practice law in the US.
  • Typically has 1-3 years of professional experience in mortgage servicing law.
  • Licensed to practice law, in good standing.
  • Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Regulation X (RESPA), Regulation Z (TILA), and applicable mortgage servicing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on mortgage servicing documentation and compliance.
  • Support divisions with timely, high-quality legal guidance.
  • Research federal/state mortgage servicing laws and investor requirements.
  • Develop and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impacts on processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, tech, and compliance teams.
  • Resolve servicing-related questions with clients' legal contacts.
