Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in-house legal support focused on mortgage servicing documentation and regulatory compliance. You will research federal and state laws, draft and review servicing documents, and advise operations and product teams on regulatory changes to ensure accuracy and risk management.

The role requires a JD and US bar admission, typically 1–3 years of experience, and a collaborative approach within the in-house Legal team.

Qualifications

  • Law degree required.
  • Admitted to practice law in the US.
  • Typically has 1–3 years of professional experience in area of specialization.
  • Licensed to practice law, in good standing.
  • Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with government agency and investor requirements affecting mortgage servicing.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical documentation, system, or operational solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the business objectives by providing timely and effective legal support while minimizing exposure and risk.
  • Provide high-quality legal counsel focused on mortgage servicing documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Research federal and state mortgage servicing laws and investor requirements to ensure documents remain compliant.
  • Review, develop, and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms for regulatory accuracy.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on documents and processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams to address documentation questions and implement regulatory changes.
  • Support clients' legal and compliance contacts to resolve servicing-related questions.
