Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in-house legal and regulatory counsel focused on mortgage servicing documents and compliance. The role involves interpreting federal and state mortgage servicing laws, drafting and reviewing documents, and advising operational teams to minimize regulatory risk.

You will partner with product, technology, and compliance to implement regulatory changes and address servicing questions from clients’ legal contacts.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in good standing.
  • Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Reg X (RESPA) and Reg Z (TILA).
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements into practical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, high-quality legal counsel to divisions with focus on mortgage servicing docs.
  • Research federal and state mortgage servicing laws and investor requirements.
  • Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms for compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on documents and processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Assist clients' legal and compliance contacts with servicing questions.
  • Support product enhancements and regulatory changes implementation.
