Job summary

American Shipping Company is seeking an Import Operations Clerk to handle daily import functions and support Customer Service. You will issue delivery orders, dispatch shipments to carriers, and track pickups and final deliveries to ensure on-time performance.

Responsibilities include verifying documents, updating ETAs, sharing delivery orders with truckers, and coordinating with clients on delivery status. Proficiency in Excel/Office and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical and motivational skills.
• Team orientated with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Access.

Responsibilities

• Verify bill of lading number, piece count, container numbers against documents.
• Ensure shipment has arrived and is released/available for pick up from pier/rail yard.
• In inland cargo, ensure containers are moving to destination.
• Update ETA in the system and related screens; adjust D/O notes if ETA changes.
• Obtain pick up numbers and ensure they are passed to carrier.
• Email delivery orders to trucker and confirm receipt in writing.
• Update system with delivery order sent details.
• Pay Pier Pass (Los Angeles/Long Beach) as needed.
• Claim container for Port Check/Clean Truck as necessary.
• Ensure cargo moved out of terminal/rail yard before last free day.
• Verify delivery dates input by truckers when required.
• Obtain Proof of Delivery and enter date in system.
• Handle customs examinations and payments if required.
• Obtain approved demurrage guarantee form from client.
• Inform Customer Service of delivery delays to coordinate with client.
