Job summary

Self-Help Credit Union in Morganton, NC, is seeking a Universal Banker to join our Morganton team. You will provide friendly member service, handle cash, open accounts, and promote credit union products in line with member needs.

Major responsibilities include processing transactions, assisting with lending and deposits, and supporting branch operations. A strong commitment to community finance and teamwork is essential, with some travel, evenings, and weekend work expected as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of experience in retail banking including experience in cash handling and opening accounts.
• Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
• Preference for teamwork and collaboration.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of credit products including ability to approve consumer loans up to lending authority.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to cover other branches and work evenings and weekends.
• English/Spanish fluency preferred not required.
• Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome members and visitors, provide prompt, efficient service.
• Promote credit union products and services based on members’ needs.
• Open new membership accounts and provide information in person, by phone, or email.
• Respond to inquiries and resolve problems or escalate as appropriate.
• Perform account transactions and maintenance including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and transfers.
• Refer mortgage loan requests to Mortgage Loan Assistants or Officers.
• Open, balance, and close cash drawer and manage vault if needed.
• Assist with mailed-in, ATM, night deposits, and ATM balancing.
