Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and specimen processing in a demanding healthcare setting. The role supports quality patient care in American Indian communities with attention to CAP/CLIA compliance and instrument maintenance.

Qualifications

• GS-4: Six months of general experience and six months of specialized medical laboratory support experience; or associate degree with approved lab training.
• GS-5: One year of specialized experience in CLIA-waived lab testing or bachelor’s degree related to the position.
• GS-6: One year of specialized experience conducting standardized clinical laboratory tests and maintaining quality control.
• GS-7: One year of specialized experience conducting a broad suite of lab tests and coordinating with providers and QA processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot abnormal findings to ensure accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments; prepare reagents and culture media; monitor quality control.
• Collect and process patient specimens; accession and track in LIS; prepare for referral testing.
• Validate and document results; communicate findings to healthcare providers; support CAP/CLIA compliance.
