Job summary

American Heart Association is seeking a Development Director, School Engagement to lead fundraising efforts across Southwest Virginia. You will work from a home office with frequent travel to schools in Roanoke, Lynchburg and New River Valley to drive health education programs.

You will promote the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge, manage CRM data, and coordinate with schools to meet ambitious goals while adapting to school schedules and events.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of fundraising or related experience.
• Ability to travel locally on a daily basis.
• University/college degree or equivalent experience.
• Work from home office and field, with flexible hours.
• Self-motivated, proactive communication, and independence.
• Data management in CRMs and reporting using Microsoft Office.
• Ability to lift/move large objects as needed for events.

Responsibilities

• Meet an overall fundraising goal of $300K through volunteers and sponsorships.
• Recruit and engage students via schools and districts for programs.
• Implement classroom challenges, activities, and assemblies (in-person/digital).
• Build relationships with teachers, principals, and district leaders.
• Provide excellent service to volunteers and partners; plan kick-offs.
• Maintain and update CRM records; manage data in MS Office.
• Handle 5–10 schools daily, in person or via phone/online.
