Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Scheduling Clerk to coordinate outpatient procedures and communicate schedules with patients, physicians’ offices and the department involved.

Under supervision, you will schedule exams, enter demographic and insurance information, and ensure proper sequencing of multiple appointments. The role emphasizes accurate documentation, adherence to scripting for calls, and professional communication with patients and providers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, computers, office equipment and machines required.
• Typing skills of 45 wpm required.
• High emphasis on interpersonal, telephone and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and completes appropriate forms, logs, etc for all outpatient exams in accordance with established procedures. Enters all demographic and insurance information into the appropriate computer programs per established procedures. (45%)
• Schedules for a patient’s multiple exams in proper sequence to prevent unnecessary testing delays. (15%)
• Conveys accurate information to patients on special preparation for their procedure or exam. (15%)
• Maintains effective, timely and professional communication and documentation on patient scheduling, form preparation, supporting documentation and other materials needed for th exam with physician offices, patients and imaging professionals. (10%)
• Follows department telephone scripting procedures for contacting and interacting with patients regarding scheduling, canceling or rescheduling of appointments, authorizations, payments etc. (10%)
