Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to complete scheduling, pre-registration, financial clearance, and eligibility verification. You will collect and explain patient financial responsibilities, assist with authorizations and referrals, and help ensure accurate bill submission while delivering a positive patient experience.

The role requires strong data entry, communication skills, and accuracy in handling sensitive information in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of related experience, preferably in a medical setting, financial services setting and/or a demanding customer service environment.
• Experience operating a PC and using software applications.

Responsibilities

• Conducts scheduling, and preregistration functions, validates patient demographic data, identifies and verifies medical benefits, accurate plan code and COB order.
• Obtains limited clinical data based on service required; corrects and updates data to assure timely, accurate bill submission.
• Verifies insurance information through payor contacts via telephone, online resources, or electronic verification system; identifies authorization/referral requirements.
• Provides documentation and follow up to physician offices, case management, and payors regarding authorization/referral deficiencies.
• Identifies patient financial responsibilities, calculates estimates, collects liabilities and post payment transactions in the ADT system; performs daily reconciliation.
• Identifies self-pay and complex liability calculations and escalates to Financial Counselors as appropriate.
• Delivers a positive patient experience and maintains relationships with patients, AHN leadership and staff, physician offices and external agencies or vendors.
• Maintains focus on productivity and considers innovative approaches for enhancing performance.
• Adheres to AHN policies and completes mandatory training as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
