Job summary

HDR is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Hydropower team. This role focuses on mechanical balance of plant upgrades at existing hydro facilities across the U.S., including life extension work and new pumped storage concepts.

The engineer will lead design, analysis, and client interactions within a multi‑discipline group. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of power-sector project execution experience, proficiency with 3D design tools, and a PE license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license recognized by the licensing board.
  • 5+ years of experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Experience with design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe and Revit.
  • Active participation in an employee‑owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical system designs for hydro facilities, including P&IDs and layouts.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and design calculations.
  • Perform bid evaluations and site inspections as needed.
  • Provide field support during installation, testing and startup.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage project workload and schedule.
  • Establish client relationships and support proposal development.
  • Lead multiple projects and ensure alignment with budgets and schedules.
