Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hydropower team across the U.S. This role leads mechanical balance-of-plant upgrades at existing hydro facilities and supports new pumped storage feasibility studies.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary group to design, specify, and implement mechanical systems, coordinating schedules, budgets, and client relationships. The position emphasizes leadership, project management, and hands-on support from design through field deployment, with

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of project execution experience in the Power Market Sector.
  • Experience as Project Lead Engineer in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Design and installation of mechanical system upgrades for hydro facilities.
  • Experience with hydroelectric generating station mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to perform feasibility studies for pumped storage facilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
  • Experience with NavisWorks, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit and related tools.
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical balance-of-plant upgrade projects at hydro facilities.
  • Develop design work including schematics, P&IDs, layouts, and calculations.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and bid evaluations.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and project milestones.
  • Support field work, site visits, and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies and budgeting discussions.
