Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hydropower team. This position supports engineering consulting for electric utilities across the U.S., leading mechanical upgrades and feasibility studies for pumped storage projects.

You’ll work with a multi‑discipline group and serve as mechanical lead on multiple projects, delivering designs and analyses that sustain reliable power infrastructure. Preferred candidates have a PE license, a Bachelors in Engineering, and at least five years of

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support mechanical balance of plant upgrades at hydro facilities.
  • Lead major mechanical equipment upgrades at existing hydro facilities.
  • Perform life extension and system upgrade studies for hydropower facilities.
  • Prepare P&IDs, equipment sizing, layouts, and system calculations.
  • Prepare equipment and design specifications.
  • Coordinate work with a multi‑discipline team through project development.
  • Track project costs and schedule; ensure work stays within budget.
  • Provide field support during installation, commissioning and startup.
