Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hydropower team, leading mechanical balance-of-plant upgrades and feasibility studies for pumped storage facilities across the U.S.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary group, drive design of P&IDs, equipment sizing, and system layouts, and coordinate with project teams to meet schedules and budgets.

This role offers the chance to contribute to grid reliability and to grow into a Team Leader within our employee‑owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE or P.Eng) preferred.
  • Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficiency with CAD/design software: AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe and Revit; NavisWorks.
  • Experience leading mechanical engineering projects and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical system designs including P&IDs, equipment sizing, detailed layouts, and system calculations.
  • Prepare equipment and design specifications.
  • Perform equipment and contractor bid evaluations.
  • Perform site inspections including confined space entries.
  • Provide field support during installation, testing and start-up.
  • Coordinate workload and manage project budgets/schedules.
