Job summary

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a System Operator Trainer to develop, deliver and document power system operations training for NYISO staff and connected entities. The role involves classroom, simulation, computer-based and on-the-job training formats.

Ideal candidates will have five years of technical training experience, familiarity with energy management software and training simulators, and the ability to ensure training aligns with NERC/NYISO requirements.

Qualifications

• Five years of related technical or engineering training experience.
• Experience delivering training to technical trade schools or junior colleges.
• Knowledge of Energy Management or control system software.
• Knowledge of simulator applications for training.
• Experience in power system training or instructional design.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all phases of SAT to support System Operator Training programs.
• Collaborate with NPCC Control Areas, NYCA and North American Transmission Owners for joint training.
• Conduct Job Task Analysis with Grid Operations to update Control Room Operator tasks per PER-005.
• Document and maintain training records for audit and NYISO requirements.
• Develop training to ensure operators can operate the NYCA Transmission System.
• Conduct User Acceptance Testing with the Operator Training Simulator.
• Contribute to NYISO Curriculum Review Committee.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert for training topics within NYISO committees.
• Participate in regional and national forums related to power system operations and training.
