Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago offers a hybrid role focused on nuclear power uprates. You will lead licensing basis work, sizing and evaluation of plant equipment, and deliver technical reports for major nuclear projects.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in nuclear engineering, strong thermodynamics and heat transfer knowledge, and proven communication skills to liaise with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics background.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare calculations and reports.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics to power plant engineering tasks.
• Perform consulting-level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, pumps, heat exchangers, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations with clear, concise technical information.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant tasks.
• Review calculations and drawings performed by others; ensure client satisfaction.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
