Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role (3 days in the Downtown Chicago Office, 2 days remote) focused on nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to support licensing basis evaluations, perform heat balance and equipment calculations, and develop proposals.

Mentoring junior staff and client interface are expected.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear uprates and turbine retrofit projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics in power plant engineering.
• Prepare calculations and reports to support client recommendations.
• Size equipment and evaluate power train pumps, heat exchangers, and condensers.
• Prepare engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Lead and mentor junior staff on technical tasks.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
• Perform independent reviews of work and drawings.
