Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a highly experienced nuclear power engineer to lead uprate projects, evaluate equipment, and coordinate client interactions. The role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in-office and two remote, focusing on major systems, heat balances, and turbine/refurbishment work across nuclear plants.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in the nuclear sector, strong thermodynamics knowledge, and proven project leadership, with robust report writing and vendor evaluation skills.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program with interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Experience in Power Uprates (EPU/SPU/MUR) and related assessments.
• All assignments require preparation of calculations and/or reports with strong technical writing.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering applications to project design and problem solving.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Manage resources and develop estimates for task completion and budget.
• Review calculations related to heat balances, pumps, exchangers, and plant hazards.
• Review task reports and equipment evaluations for clear client communication.
• Review equipment sizing and selections in response to client needs.
• Evaluate vendor bids from a technical perspective.
• Interface with vendors for document reviews and compliance checks.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant tasks.
• Perform independent reviews of calculations and drawings.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
