Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer for nuclear power uprate projects and plant-system analysis. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to size and evaluate equipment, ensuring compliance and quality.

The role blends office work with on-site collaboration, including client meetings, report writing, and mentoring junior staff. Strong communication and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with emphasis on thermodynamics/heat transfer.
• 10+ years in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Experience in balance of plant systems and heat balance.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
• Knowledge of codes and regulations for nuclear mechanical design.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis and component evaluations for uprate projects.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, pumps, exchangers, and sinks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers on power plant tasks.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
• Perform independent reviews of work and calculations.
