Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Lead Archaeologist – Principal Investigator to join our Pacific Northwest Subregion. You will lead projects, oversee fieldwork, draft reports, and guide staff, reporting to the Cultural Resources Director. Hybrid and distributed work options are available.

This senior role requires six years of experience (eight preferred) and a Master’s in Archaeology or Anthropology, with ability to travel roughly 20%. Competitive salary range is listed for Portland, OR.

Qualifications

• Six years of relevant, progressively responsible experience; master’s degree in related field.
• Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology required.
• Ph.D. in Archaeology or Anthropology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex projects and oversee technical approach, QA/QC.
• Oversee field research, data collection, and final report production.
• Mentor staff and develop training protocols in NRHP and reporting standards.
• Prepare and contribute to proposals and client communications.
• Travel up to ~20% for fieldwork and site visits.
