Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Lead Archaeologist—Principal Investigator to join our Pacific Northwest Subregion. This role oversees fieldwork, reporting, and client coordination, reporting to the Pacific Northwest Cultural Resources Director, with hybrid/remote options.

The position targets candidates with six to eight years of experience, strong technical writing, and the ability to lead complex archaeological projects and mentor staff across teams.

Qualifications

• Strategic leadership of complex archaeology projects and client objectives.
• Strong written communication and QA/QC for technical reports.
• Mentor staff and develop team capabilities in cultural resources.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Principal Investigator or co-author on technical reports.
• Oversee field research, data collection, and final report production.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor Field Directors and archaeologists; provide training.
• Ensure compliance with NRHP and SHPO standards.
• Assist in proposals and staff supervision as needed.
