Job summary

The American Mathematical Society is seeking a Payroll Administrator in Providence, RI. This role handles biweekly payroll, maintains payroll records, and ensures accuracy of wages, taxes, and deductions.

The position requires compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and close coordination with HR and accounting. Responsibilities include tax reporting, vendor maintenance, audits support, and confidential handling of compensation data.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 2+ years of payroll experience is required, preferably in nonprofit organizations
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes and wage regulations
• Excellent attention to detail and confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Process biweekly payroll and related transactions for the organization
• Maintain and update employee payroll records (hours, deductions, bonuses)
• Calculate wages, overtime, and deductions and ensure accuracy
• Prepare and file payroll tax reports and wage reports
• Set up and maintain tax jurisdictions and rates in payroll system
• Oversee tax filings and respond to notices
• Ensure W-2s are accurate and filed on time
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay and deductions
• Assist with audits and provide payroll data as needed
• Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation information
• Coordinate with HR on payroll matters
• Handle accounts payable related payroll questions
