Job summary

Amentum is recruiting a Mechanical Calculations Engineer to support the HPC piping discipline on a major UK nuclear project. The role focuses on on-site installation issues, interface management across disciplines and adherence to nuclear industry standards and EPR-E procedures.

You'll perform FE analyses, piping flexibility studies, and anchorage design while coordinating with Equipment, Electrical and CAD teams. A strong background in EUROCODE/ASME/RCC-M, and PDMS/PIPESTRESS tools is expected.

Qualifications

• Master’s in science or Mechanical Engineering degree is required.
• Experience: minimum 3 years in Mechanical Calculation, nuclear industry or equivalent.
• Knowledge of EUROCODE, ASME and RCC-M code.
• Familiar with 2D/3D design and calculation software PDMS, NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, ANSYS APDL and WORKBENCH.
• Knowledge of piping and support calculation tools.

Responsibilities

• Gather input data, analyse/update hypothesis notes, and prepare detailed loading description reports for piping systems and supports.
• Perform piping flexibility calculations, piping support calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA) to address installation and operational issues using PipeStress, RSTAB & ANSYS.
• Design and calculate anchorages, welds, and bolted connections for piping and equipment supports.
• Propose proportionate modifications when sizing criteria are not met.
• Check steel structures and supports for electrical cabinets, batteries, boxes and cable trays.
• Provide technical clarifications and respond to site requests (RFI, FCR, NCR); support other disciplines.
• Collaborate with CAD designers to assist for accurate design drawings using 2D and 3D software.
