Job summary

The Mutual Group in the United States is seeking a Commercial Lines Nonprofit Underwriting Specialist to grow and manage a portfolio, advise peers, and set coverage and pricing levels for nonprofit human services and education organizations.

You will build strong agent relationships, handle renewals, and collaborate with risk control to ensure profitable, compliant outcomes while mentoring staff and supporting a high performing team. Hybrid work is available for local employees.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years underwriting all commercial lines (Property, GL, Professional, WC, Crime, Auto, Umbrella, etc).
• Prefer Nonprofit Human Services and Education underwriting experience.
• Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbal.
• Ability to analyze and make decisions in a timely manner.
• Working to obtain CPCU or other industry equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Grow and manage a book of commercial lines business with careful risk selection.
• Advise other underwriters and support staff on processes and procedures.
• Consult at the highest level of technical underwriting authority.
• Build relationships with agents to drive flow and profitability.
• Underwrite renewals and referrals with attention to rate changes and compliance.
• Mentor staff and participate in training and audits.
• Collaborate with distribution teams to expand agency relationships.
