Job summary

Stantec’s Federal Buildings practice seeks a Mechanical Designer to advance HVAC, piping, and plumbing design for built environments. You will use Revit and AutoCAD to produce deliverables, collaborate with project teams, and support cost estimates and design narratives.

The role requires strong technical skills, a passion for sustainable design, and the ability to coordinate across disciplines. Office locations include Seattle, Lynnwood, WA, with hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of buildings mechanical engineering including HVAC, piping, plumbing and controls.
• Ability to prepare and review detailed drawings with minimal supervision.
• Ability to integrate design elements with multiple disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
• Familiarity with UFC, IMC, UMC, IPC, UPC, NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE; LEED/green building knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal communication for client and stakeholder interaction.
• Understanding of sustainable design principles.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical and plumbing systems for built environments with limited guidance.
• Collaborate with project managers and design staff as part of a team.
• Prepare basis-of-design narratives, cost estimates, drawings, and specs.
• Produce mechanical system options and communicate their impacts clearly.
• Prepare calculations and use BIM tools to ensure constructible designs.
• Support field investigations and analyze existing conditions for solutions.
• Assist with energy life cycle cost analyses and project studies.
• Mentor junior design staff and contribute to team development.
• Review drawings for code compliance and participate in design coordination meetings.
• Assist in construction administration, RFIs, and site observations.
