Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead advanced mechanical design for built environments, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing. You will use Revit and BIM practices, collaborate with project teams, and ensure effective documentation and specifications for healthcare and science & tech projects.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years of experience, a Bachelor’s degree, and PE licensure preferred. Hybrid work with Portland area collaboration is expected; travel and client interaction are common.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge for buildings mechanical engineering, including HVAC, piping, plumbing and controls.
• Ability to prepare and review detailed drawings with minimal supervision.
• Ability to integrate design elements with multiple disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
• Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IMC, UMC, IPC, UPC, NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE).
• Familiarity with sustainable design principles and LEED.

Responsibilities

• Designs mechanical systems for the built environment with limited direction.
• Collaborates with project managers and supporting design staff as part of a design team.
• Supports project requirements including basis-of-design narratives, cost estimates, drawings, specs.
• Researches, prepares, and presents options with impacts to project goals.
• Prepares calculations to meet project requirements.
• Develops design and document preparation and ensures timely contract documents with codes/QA standards.
• Resolves design conflicts and provides recommendations to add value.
• Performs field investigations to develop engineering solutions.
• Assist energy life cycle cost analyses and system studies.
• Mentors junior staff and participates in staff development.
• Delegates work and reviews drawings, researching code issues to comply with regulations.
• Participates in design coordination meetings with clients and stakeholders.
• Communicates with manufacturers/contractors to address challenges and develop designs.
• Creates and edits technical specifications and interprets energy modeling results.
