Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Cary, NC is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to design underground transmission lines up to 500 kV. You will lead a design team, perform routing, duct bank layouts, cable selection studies, and develop project drawings and specifications.

This role offers a hybrid work schedule (three days in office, two remote) and a generous relocation package. Candidates should have a BS in engineering, 12+ years of leadership experience, and familiarity with standards such as NESC,

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations and software.
• 12+ years of experience leading a design team on complex underground transmission projects.
• Experience with code requirements (NESC, EPRI, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318).
• Experience with cost estimates and schedule coordination.
• Experience with XLPE cable design and procurement specifications.
• Knowledge of right-of-way requirements and construction drawings.
• Proficiency in MS Office; strong written and verbal communication; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design complex underground transmission lines up to 500 kV.
• Lead and coordinate a design team of engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Develop routing, duct bank configurations, and manhole placements.
• Prepare specifications for installation and procurement of materials.
• Perform ampacity calculations and bonding scheme determinations.
• Develop riser configurations and structural loading.
• Coordinate with vendors and clients on transmission line components.
• Ensure compliance with design codes and standards.
