Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chattanooga, TN, is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to power plant upgrades, size equipment, and prepare calculations and reports for client reviews.

The role requires 10+ years in the nuclear industry, strong communication skills, and experience with uprates and turbine retrofits.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
• 10+ years of nuclear power industry experience
• Experience with nuclear uprates and turbine retrofit projects
• Experience in balance of plant, heat balance, pumps, heat exchangers, and UWHS
• Strong report writing and analytical skills
• Proficiency with MS Office and technical reporting standards
• Keen interest in numerical computations and problem solving
• Knowledge of codes, standards and regulations for nuclear mechanical design
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects
• Prepare and review heat balance, pump, exchanger, and condenser calculations
• Size equipment and optimize designs to support uprate proposals
• Draft task reports and equipment evaluations for client reviews
• Interface with clients and project teams to present findings
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates
• Lead and mentor junior staff in power plant engineering tasks
• Review others' calculations and drawings for quality and accuracy
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope
