Job summary

Urban Land Institute in Washington, DC is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to support staff, manage user accounts, and handle frontline IT issues across Windows and macOS. You will work with Azure AD, Intune, and M365 admin centers, delivering reliable, user-friendly IT services in a hybrid office environment.

The role emphasizes Tier 1 support with growth into Tier 2 tasks, onboarding, and close collaboration with Network Administrators and vendors.

Qualifications

• 1 to 2 years of IT support or systems administration experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 admin centers and Microsoft 365 apps.
• Working knowledge of Windows 10/11 and macOS (plus iOS).
• Experience with Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD).
• Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune or similar device management tool.
• Calm, patient, service-first temperament; able to be the face of IT.
• Clear verbal and written communication; able to explain technical issues simply.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-volume moments.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as visible in-office IT presence and first point of contact for staff support needs.
• Resolve tickets through ServiceNow, documenting, prioritizing, and closing on time.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software on Windows and macOS, in person and remotely.
• Contribute to SOPs to ensure recurring issues are solved consistently.
• Provision and deprovision user accounts and access across AD, Entra ID, M365, and SSO.
• Manage permissions in Microsoft 365 admin centers.
• Lead new-hire IT orientation and assist with staff training sessions.
• Manage lifecycle of laptops (deployment, imaging, troubleshooting, retirement).
• Keep devices patched and secure using Intune or similar tools with Network Admins.
• Assist with administering Azure environment and backup/recovery processes.
