Job summary

Travelers Insurance is seeking an experienced Claim Counsel to join the Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) team. You will manage lower to moderate severity claims, oversee outside counsel, and support underwriting with legal insights.

The role requires a JD, active license, and typically 2+ years of relevant legal experience. The position offers hybrid work across CT Hartford and MA offices, with opportunities for collaboration and advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Juris Doctor Degree required and license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Two years of relevant legal experience.
• Valid driver’s license or access to transportation to travel to mediations, conferences, trials, and depositions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve Bond & Specialty claims of predominantly lower to moderate severity and complexity.
• Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and negotiate settlements when appropriate.
• Prepare management reports on loss development, financial exposure, and resolution strategies.
• Develop and coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit to optimize loss mitigation opportunities.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions to support claim resolution.
• Provide legal and business support to underwriting colleagues, including reviewing contracts and endorsements.
