Job summary

Sargent Lundy is seeking a distribution design drafter/engineer in Chicago to lead design work on overhead and underground facilities from 4 kV to 38 kV. You will prepare sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and review drawings, collaborating with project teams and clients.

In this role you will perform field work when needed, support maintenance of distribution components, and coordinate with stakeholders. The position follows a hybrid schedule (three days in office, two remote) in the Chicago area.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Drafting or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or a high school diploma.
• 3+ years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• 5+ years of distribution design experience.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize systems without CAD assistance.
• Knowledge of design techniques and production of technical plans and drawings.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE; GIS tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare/Review construction sketches and work packages for distribution facilities (4 KV–38 KV).
• Support preliminary project scoping and field work when needed.
• Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
• Plan modifications and oversee complex design tasks.
• Provide construction support and client communication as required.
