Job summary

R.E. Michel Company in Onley, VA is seeking an entry-level Counter Sales associate. You will handle phone inquiries, locate items, assist customers, generate invoices, and assist with loading and delivering products.

The role requires strong customer service and basic math skills, with responsibilities including order entry and handling payments. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Branch Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of Heating and Cooling systems, parts and supplies is preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication skills with the public/customers.
• Excellent attitude and interpersonal skills for service in-branch, on the phone, or at delivery site.
• Proficiency operating a computer and Prophet 21.
• Basic math skills; understand markup vs gross margin and impact on sales and expenses.
• Ability to read invoices, catalogs, stock numbers and descriptions.

Responsibilities

• Provide fast and friendly customer service by following Customer First standards, in person or over the telephone.
• Greet customers entering the branch with a positive attitude.
• Enter customer orders in system on the same day the order is received.
• Pull customer orders from warehouse and load into delivery truck or staging area.
• Prepare invoices, CODs, special orders and shipping/receiving paperwork accurately.
• Process payments via cash or credit card following money handling procedures.
• Process customer returns and warranties the same day received.
• Maintain and restock self-service area, rotate displays and tidy areas.
• Create/maintain branch displays supporting programs and market strengths.
• Locate products using all available resources and update customers on delivery/backorder status.
