Job summary

Montgomery College is seeking a full-time HVAC Mechanic II at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. The role involves installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and retrofitting HVAC systems, with a Tuesday-Saturday, 6:30am-3:00pm work schedule.

Under supervision, you will diagnose air distribution and control systems, repair sensors and DDC hardware, read blueprints, and ensure compliance with codes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with five years of experience in heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience may be considered.
• Comprehensive knowledge of DDC/HVAC systems and chiller operations.
• Knowledge of building systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and energy systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC trade methods, procedures and techniques.
• Working knowledge of hazards and safe use of tools/equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints/control diagrams/electrical schematics.
• Ability to read and follow written, verbal and visual instructions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install and repair commercial heating and air-conditioning systems and subsystems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot air distribution, balancing, insulation and vapor deficiencies.
• Repair or replace sensors, transmitters and transducers for control systems.
• Repair or retrofit DDC hardware and BAS components.
• Adjust boiler, chiller and air handling unit parameters.
• Install, maintain and retrofit control circuits and actuators.
• Perform routine maintenance and backups for the DDC system and BAS.
• Monitor construction projects for compliance with codes and contracts.
• Maintain records of work performed, parts and materials used.
