Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Controls Service Technician Team Leader I to oversee service, design, and commissioning of HVAC building control systems. You will lead technician teams, coordinate routes, and ensure safe, high-quality field execution.

The role combines hands-on controls work with leadership responsibilities, requiring deep knowledge of low-voltage subsystems and networking protocols, strong communication skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience with programming, installing, and/or commissioning controls systems, including system-level controllers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction, service mechanical, electrical, or HVAC service industry.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and related building subsystems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating low-voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols such as Modbus, LON, and BACnet.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences such as customers, consultants, sales partners, and field teams.
• Advanced computer skills, including computer-related drafting tools such as Visio.
• Experience leading, coaching, or coordinating field technicians and supporting team performance.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Lead the service, repair, design, configuration, and operation of HVAC building control systems and low-voltage sub-systems such as lighting, nurse call, and data networks.
• Develop complex software programs and support commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure proper system operation.
• Create and coordinate flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, electrical schematics, and related submittal documents.
• Support day-to-day field technician activities, plan monthly routes, and help deploy resources effectively across assigned work.
• Analyze team and account performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend changes that support profitability, safety, and client satisfaction.
• Coordinate with sales, service operations, subcontractors, and other trades to support bids, installation efforts, and customer commitments.
• Select, order, and track materials for assigned jobs and support loading, commissioning, and system handoff activities.
• Provide field change information for as-built drawings and software updates, and keep management and customers informed of progress and issues.
• Support site-specific training for owners and operators on the building control system.
• Provide work direction, coaching, and performance support to technicians and other assigned team members as needed.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety compliance and high standards of regard for employees, subcontractors, and customers.
