Job summary

Johnson Controls in San Diego, CA is seeking a seasoned Controls Service Technician Team Lead to oversee service, design, configuration, and operation of complete HVAC building control systems and related low-voltage subsystems. You will lead field technicians, coordinate routes, and ensure high-quality, safe execution across sites.

The role emphasizes technical depth, team leadership, customer communication, and collaboration with sales and service operations to meet client commitments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience with programming, installing, and/or commissioning controls systems, including system-level controllers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction, service mechanical, electrical, or HVAC service industry.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and related building subsystems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating low-voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols such as Modbus, LON, and BACnet.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences such as customers, consultants, sales partners, and field teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the service, repair, design, configuration, and operation of HVAC building control systems and low-voltage sub-systems such as lighting, nurse call, and data networks.
• Develop complex software programs and support commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure proper system operation.
• Create and coordinate flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, electrical schematics, and related submittal documents.
• Support day-to-day field technician activities, plan monthly routes, and help deploy resources effectively across assigned work.
• Analyze team and account performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend changes that support profitability, safety, and client satisfaction.
• Coordinate with sales, service operations, subcontractors, and other trades to support bids, installation efforts, and customer commitments.
