Job summary

EMC Renewables seeks a Substation Engineer to lead HV substation and Gen-Tie design for utility-scale PV projects. You will perform electrical studies, develop substations, and ensure code compliance across NEC/NESC/IEEE standards.

Collaborate with civil, structural, and procurement teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs. 2+ years in HV engineering and proficiency with Excel, AutoCAD, and industry tools are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
• 2+ years in HV engineering for renewables, transmission, or utilities.
• Experience in substation and transmission line design.
• Experience with EPC or self-perform construction in solar PV or BESS projects in the U.S.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, CYMCAP, CDEGS, PLSCADD.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC codes.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform HV substation and transmission-line design, including studies and system analysis.
• Conduct short-circuit, grounding, insulation coordination, and protection studies.
• Develop protection coordination studies and relay settings.
• Ensure interconnection and grid-code compliance.
• Prepare reports and calculations for overhead and underground lines.
• Perform route, feasibility, and techno-economic studies for HV lines.
• Create single-line diagrams, protection SLDs, wiring and communication diagrams.
• Prepare interlocking logic and detailed protection/control schematics.
• Coordinate with civil/structural teams on design requirements.
• Review docs from subcontractors for compliance.
• Prepare BoQ and technical specs for procurement.
• Assess HV equipment like transformers, breakers, switchgear, towers.
• Manage interfaces between HV and PV plant designs.
• Participate in Owner’s Engineer meetings and supplier evaluations.
