Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a dynamic Senior Substation Engineer for the High Voltage Engineering team to oversee HV design from EPC firms for renewable projects across the Eastern US. You will ensure interconnection requirements, coordinate with utilities, and lead technical discussions with suppliers, consultants, and project teams in the field.

Ideal candidates have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 7+ years in substation design, and hands-on HV experience.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of HV project engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering design and construction for HV substations and transmission lines (35kV to 500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with HV contractors.
• Review Substation EPC designs for interconnection compliance and reliability standards.
• Provide design review and resolve issues that are technically incorrect or inconsistent with project documentation.
• Review power system studies such as load flows, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination.
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to design collectors per Transmission Provider requirements.
• Support substation commissioning by reviewing testing and coordinating with utility and ISO.
• Collaborate with project management, development, interconnection, real estate, permitting, attorneys, finance, and construction teams.
• Travel and fieldwork around 25%. Majority of projects in Eastern/Central US.
