Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Field Services Engineer/Technician for electrical testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of high/medium voltage systems. You will learn to operate test instruments, support protection testing, and gain experience in electrical components and system structure.

The role covers across Florida or the Carolinas with travel throughout the region, focusing on safety, quality, and timely delivery on active projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 7+ years in electrical testing, including medium/high voltage breakers and substations.
• Expertise with transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL/Basler/Beckwith/GE).
• Relay calibration and testing using Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150; control scheme testing.
• Experience with NETA, IEEE, NFPA standards.
• Knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, transmission projects (15 kV–500 kV).
• Experience reading electrical drawings.
• Willingness to travel up to 80%.
• Ability to document field data and reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and commissioning for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
• Conduct on-site relay testing with Omicron/Doble test sets; test multiple relay types.
• Document site activities using field forms and mobile tools.
• Assist field teams and mentor junior technicians.
• Escalate complex issues to site lead or project manager.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure health and safety compliance.
• Review work of peers for quality and accuracy when needed.
• Maintain logs, sketches, and photo documentation.
