Job summary

UCSF Health seeks an HR Manager I to provide strategic and operational leadership for a team delivering high-quality HR services across UCSF. Reporting to the Director of HR Shared Services, you will partner with campus and health leaders to ensure compliant, customer-focused service that supports the employee lifecycle and advances UCSF's mission.

You will lead pre-boarding experiences, oversee HR generalists, and drive improvements in timeliness and cross-functional handoffs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• 8+ years HR related experience
• 5+ years demonstrated strong management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates
• Ability to interpret staff personnel policies in order to support the Shared Services Staff Director and advise department people leaders on appropriate actions to meet business and strategic goals.
• Direct knowledge of specific functions in a university's HR management information systems.
• Strong communication skills with a diversity of communication styles; may make oral or written presentations.
• Experience making decisions regarding hiring, evaluating, and development of subordinates; determines the best way of achieving unit goals. Demonstrated strong management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates: ability to build relationships both internally and externally to the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
• Demonstrated experience leading employee experience, employee or manager pre-boarding, customer experience, or service improvement initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated experience providing HR management or HR generalist support while leading cross-functional employee experience, pre-boarding, service delivery, or process improvement initiatives.
• Experience using employee and manager feedback, service data, metrics, or other insights to identify pain points, prioritize improvements, and evaluate outcomes.
• Demonstrated project and change management skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage competing priorities, and drive implementation through completion.
• Ability to influence and build alignment across teams and levels of an organization, including facilitating decisions and creating shared accountability for experience and service outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Establish operational goals, service standards, and performance metrics that drive exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Serve as HR Shared Services lead for the employee and manager pre-boarding experience across UCSF Campus and UCSF Health, with responsibility for designing, coordinating, and continuously improving onboarding experiences.
• Provide HR management and consultation to assigned departments and leaders, applying staff HR policies, practices, and operational expertise to support workforce practices.
• Foster strong client partnerships, manage service level expectations, leverage technology to enhance efficiency, and lead initiatives that improve processes and the overall employee experience.
• Establish pre-boarding experience standards, success measures, and feedback mechanisms; use feedback and service data to identify friction points; lead cross-functional improvements for a more consistent experience.
