Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a seasoned HR Generalist to lead the service center’s human resources function, guiding policy application, employee relations, onboarding, and engagement initiatives.

The role collaborates with Corporate HR and local management to optimize labor relations and staffing outcomes. The ideal candidate brings a Bachelor’s degree (PHR/SHRM preferred), 5 years of HR Generalist experience, and strong knowledge of employment law.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
• PHR or SHRM certification preferred.
• 5 years of experience as an HR Generalist, preferably in the trucking industry.
• Proficiency with AS400, SAP and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law.
• Strong leadership, time management and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Guide day-to-day employee relations and policy application.
• Support onboarding and engage employees to maximize engagement.
• Foster management-employee communication and relationship-building.
• Partner with HR recruiting to build relationships with schools and job fairs.
• Recruit, interview, and fill positions with the Service Center Manager.
• Manage onboarding and orientation sessions with HR leadership.
• Answer questions on benefits, pay, and time off policies.
• Support FMLA/Disability processes with the HR Leave of Absence team.
• Assist benefits, leave, and compensation program implementation.
• Provide HR guidance to leaders and liaise between Regional HR Manager and Ops.
