Job summary

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix seeks a Financial Assistance Specialist to support housing stability through financial aid, application processing, and data management.

You will work with guests, staff, volunteers, and landlords to process rental, mortgage, and utility assistance while ensuring grant compliance. Depending on level, responsibilities may include training, auditing files, and supervising volunteers.

Qualifications

• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn database systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in demanding environments.

• Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.

• Minimum six months in social services or related customer service.

Responsibilities

• Interview guests, assess needs, and determine eligibility for rental, mortgage, and utility assistance.
• Review and process financial assistance applications per grant requirements.
• Request, review, and approve required documentation from guests and vendors.
• Communicate with landlords regarding rent payments and eviction matters.
• Provide referrals to community agencies and SVdP Conferences.
• Assist guests with technology to complete grant applications.
• Support follow-up processes at 3, 6, and 12 months.
• Collaborate with Case Managers, Social Workers, and Vincentians.
• Liaise with Conferences to secure funding for applications.
• Participate in decision-making to approve or decline assistance requests.
