Job summary

Phoenix House of New York is seeking a Housing Specialist to assist clients transitioning from rehabilitation to permanent housing. You will identify housing options, build a housing resources database, and conduct individual sessions and groups on housing issues.

The role involves referrals, advocacy, follow-up, and helping clients with housing applications, as well as developing partnerships with government and community agencies to expand housing access.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CASAC credential in good standing required.
  • At least one year of experience in behavioral health/substance use treatment.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and boundary skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess eligibility for government housing programs and subsidies.
  • Assist clients to complete permanent housing applications.
  • Identify documents needed for housing applications.
  • Provide individual counseling, advocacy, and housing referrals.
  • Develop workshops and groups focused on housing resources.
  • Maintain a database of housing options, brokers, landlords, and property managers.
  • Engage in community outreach to identify housing opportunities.
