Job summary

Phoenix House of New York | Long Island is seeking a dedicated Counselor to facilitate daily living activities and evidence-based group counseling for clients in recovery. You will implement treatment plans, provide psychosocial interventions, and support residents through group and family sessions in a milieu setting.

You will work in a structured environment, guiding clients with empathy, cultural awareness, and professional boundaries to promote dignity and lasting recovery.

Qualifications

• Must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment preferred.
• Ability to dispense medications in emergencies and support treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual counseling and treatment/recovery plan preparation, monitoring and review.
• Facilitates activities of daily living, community meetings, engagement, carrying out treatment planning in milieu.
• Provides psychosocial interventions to teach coping skills for urges and cognitive distortions.
• Supervises milieu staff and supports team collaboration.
• Delivers psychosocial and family counseling across various groups.
• Plans and facilitates resident interactions to build social and emotional functioning.
• Maintains case records and assists in the medication room during emergencies.
