Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Community Assistance Center Case Worker to provide direct support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or financial hardship. You will assess needs, process applications for assistance, facilitate goal setting, and advocate for clients in housing, employment, and financial stability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education, or Psychology preferred, or equivalent work experience
• Minimum two years’ experience working with the low-income or homeless community
• Knowledge of local and community-based social service organizations
• Understanding of Hawaii’s homeless community or populations in need of financial or material assistance
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
• Proficient organizational skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid Hawaii Driver’s License

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intake, screening, assessment, and eligibility determination for financial assistance, material assistance, case management, and other available services
• Process financial and material assistance in accordance with funding requirements, program guidelines, and established policies and procedures
• Assist clients in obtaining and utilizing community resources, including housing, employment, recovery support programs, educational opportunities, and other relevant services
• Facilitate budget coaching and life skills sessions to help clients strengthen financial stability
• Provide crisis intervention, problem-solving, and appropriate referrals when clients experience urgent or complex needs
• Refer qualified client families to a Pathway of Hope Case Manager
• Participate in case consultations, team meetings, supervision, training, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement activities
• Timely record service data in HMIS, WellSky, Excel spreadsheets, and database software
• Assist with reporting, outcome measurement, and documentation required by funding sources and standards
• Maintain client privacy per HIPAA and related guidelines
• Serve as liaison between CAC, Salvation Army Corps and agencies to strengthen service delivery
• Participate in off-site community outreach events
• Demonstrate cultural humility and sensitivity with diverse communities
• Attend departmental meetings and training
• Perform other duties as assigned
