Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory seeks a Community Assistance Center Case Worker to support individuals and families facing homelessness or financial hardship in Hawaii. You will assess needs, process assistance applications, and connect clients with housing, employment, and other resources.

The role emphasizes respectful, culturally aware service, adherence to program guidelines, and collaboration with CAC teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education, or Psychology preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum two years' experience working with the low-income or homeless community.
• Knowledge of local and community-based social service organizations.
• Understanding of issues impacting Hawaii's homeless community or populations needing financial or material assistance.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid Hawaii Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intake, screening, assessment, and eligibility determination for financial assistance, material assistance, case management, and other services.
• Process financial and material assistance in accordance with funding requirements and policies.
• Assist clients in obtaining and utilizing community resources (housing, employment, recovery programs, education).
• Facilitate budget coaching and life skills sessions.
• Provide crisis intervention, problem-solving, and referrals for urgent needs.
• Refer eligible families to a Pathway of Hope Case Manager.
• Participate in meetings, training, and QA activities.
• Maintain records in HMIS, WellSky, and internal databases.
• Assist with reporting and documentation required by funders.
• Respect client privacy per HIPAA and related guidelines.
• Liaise between CAC, Salvation Army Corps, agencies, and service organizations.
• Participate in off-site community outreach events.
• Demonstrate cultural humility and sensitivity.
