Job summary

Capital Health is seeking a dedicated switchboard operator to join our team. This full-time role handles routing internal and external calls, coordinates codes, and provides language services to patients and physicians within the hospital network.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, at least six months of customer service experience, and strong English communication skills. Hours are 8 per day with an emphasis on accurate information exchange and responsive service.

Qualifications

• Six months previous customer service experience utilizing voice communication over the telephone.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalency.
• Knowledge and Skills: Clear communication skills. Fluent in English. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
• Special Training: Formal customer service training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer and transfer calls using scripts; route calls to requested destinations within established timeframes.
• Operate overhead paging as needed and use pagers to notify personnel within timeframes.
• Answer code telephones within two rings; initiate codes and announce emergencies per policy; log events accurately.
• Segregate requests for hospital personnel by technician vs physician needs.
• Reference on-call schedules and notify on-call personnel within established timeframes.
• Reference schedules and set up next day calendars daily.
• Notify interpreters for language needs and connect interpreters with patients within required timeframes.
• Provide equipment to hearing-impaired patients and obtain signatures for release of equipment.
• Associate ring tones with alarms and silence alarms as required.
• Notify appropriate hospital personnel to resolve issues within guidelines.
• Follow up on resolutions and communicate with affected departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
